FC Basel have until Wednesday next week to decide on a permanent transfer for Brighton and Hove Albion striker Andi Zeqiri, with it looking unlikely at this moment in time.

That’s according to 4-4-2.ch, who cover the situation today as the player’s loan deal with the Swiss side comes to an end.

They explain that Zeqiri’s time in red and blue will soon be over, with the club needing to make a decision in the coming days whether they want to continue with him and activate a purchase clause they have in the loan agreement with Brighton.

According to 4-2-2’s information sports director Heiko Vogel and his co-decision makers have until next Wednesday to give the thumbs up or down on a long-term deal with Zeqiri.

However, at the moment that is unlikely to be sanctioned, with his advisor, Michel Urscheler, recently commenting on the situation and making a transfer seem unlikely.

“As of today, ‘No’,” he said.

“Financially, it’s not an easy deal for Basel and the whole package is very likely to be difficult to bear. Still is But everything is open, anything is possible in football.”

4-4-2 explain that Basel have been leaving Zeqiri out of their side recently to ensure that his purchase clause from Brighton did not become mandatory, a decision that has been criticised but is purely a financial one.

A move is looking increasingly unlikely unless Brighton lower their demands and the striker will be returning to Roberto de Zerbi’s squad, although there is little chance he’ll be a part of it moving forwards.

He instead seems destined for a new club, with Urscheler adding that “there is a high probability that we will close the Brighton chapter.”
