As Brazilian clubs continue to be linked to Southampton defender Lyanco, we get to see some updates on Botafogo’s chase for the player.

Journalist Matheus Medeiros now comes up to say he managed to ‘confirm’ that the Rio de Janeiro side are interested in the 25-year-old.

It’s claimed that Botafogo’s intention would be to sign Lyanco from Southampton on loan with an option to buy.

Even though the Brazilian club were recently taken over by John Textor and find themselves in a good financial position, it isn’t believed that they’d sign the player from the Saints on a straight permanent deal.

As recently reported by the Brazilian media, Lyanco has been unhappy with the little playing time he’s been getting at Southampton, and by returning to his home country, he believes he’d have a chance to feature for the national team in the future.

The defender was signed from Torino in a €7.5m deal in the summer of 2021. This season, he has nine appearances for the Saints, largely as a substitute.
