Back on Sunday, Brazilian journalist Venê Casagrande wrote on his O Dia column that Flamengo were considering giving up on the signing of Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira.
It was claimed that with the board pressing the president not to make the purchase, the club were now ‘reevaluating’ the situation.
Now in an update on his Youtube channel, Casagrande claims that the chances of Flamengo completing the deal are now ‘nearly zero’, as they ‘want to give up on the signing’.
The big problem in all this is the deal they already have with Manchester United.
Despite the buying option to acquire the player for €20m, the clubs negotiated and reached an agreement to make the transfer for €10m.
The scenario changed following the midfielder’s recent performances, with most people getting convinced he’s not worth that money, especially because he’s now a bench player.
Now Flamengo are studying a way out of this deal, as they don’t want to get a bad reputation in the transfer market, as Casagrande points out that in case another club shows up willing to sign Pereira, the Brazilian club are ready to say they’ll quit the race at the same time.
