Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte brings a story today which finally explains the situation of Chelsea loanee Nathan in his home country.

Even though the midfielder’s contract with Atlético Mineiro expired on June 20th, he continues to train at the club due to the optimism about a new deal.

Nathan has been on loan at Galo since 2018, and his contract has been extended three times in this period. The last spell included an option to buy him for €6.5m.

Even though Atlético are happy with his form, it’s quite unlikely they would spend that much on his signing. So either Chelsea accept a new loan, or they negotiate his sale for a cheaper price. Either way, it’s very likely the player will stay in Brazil for longer.

The midfielder’s contract with Chelsea expires in 2021, as the Blues continue to renew his deal every time he gets a loan out of the club.

Nathan was signed by the Blues in 2015, but never had a chance to make his debut for the club. This is his fourth loan spell, following his time at Vitesse, Amiens, and Belenenses.
