Feyenoord are still working on a deal for Chelsea youngster Ian Maatsen, despite him reportedly turning down the transfer.

Maatsen returned to Stamford Bridge this summer after a successful loan spell with Coventry City but is unlikely to be a part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans this season.

He’s subsequently been linked with a move away, with Borussia Dortmund, then Feyenoord linked with him.

A move to the Eredivisie side appeared to have been finalised, with several reports indicating a switch was on the cards.

Indeed, the Chelsea defender had even reportedly travelled to the Netherlands for a medical, but that was then followed by claims he had turned down the move in preference of fighting for a place at Stamford Bridge.

It seemed that a move to Feyenoord was then completely off of the table, but according to Voetbal International journalist Martijn Krabbendam, that is not the case.

“They are still working with Maatsen in the background,” he told ESPN’s Voetbalpraat, relayed by Voetbal Primeur.

“Whether he has signed off for Feyenoord? Well, he just had to report to Chelsea. He’s not along for the training camp to America, so that means he can be rented out.

Whether that can only be in the Championship again, or whether it can also be at Feyenoord? Those are things that are being sorted out now.”
