Italian side Lazio are working on the contract renewal of Luis Alberto, who was signed in a €4m deal from Liverpool back in 2016.
And according to reports from the local press, they’re protecting him with a big price tag because a large percentage would still go to the Reds.
As reported by Il Messaggero on Friday, Lazio’s intention is to include a release clause of €100m in his new deal. All because 30% of a future transfer is going to Liverpool.
They point out that the English press has been reporting an interest from Everton (although that likely started in Italy), and that’s one of the reasons to give him a good new deal.
With five goals and 14 assists this season, Luis Alberto has become an important player for Lazio, and seems to be enjoying his peak for the Italian side in the past couple of years.
It’s got to be questionable whether he could replicate that at Everton, even if the interest is real, rather than simply another Serie A player being linked with Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Liverpool will now hope that a big sale is down the road, regardless of who it is to.
