Chelsea forward Kai Havertz is one of the names that Real Madrid could look at if Karim Benzema leaves the club this summer.

That’s according to AS, who say the German is on the agenda as rumours persist that Benzema could be leaving for Saudi Arabia.

Several reports this week have indicated that Benzema has one foot out of the door at the Santiago Bernabeu after receiving a huge contract to play there for the next two seasons.

That is an offer he is reportedly considering at this moment in time and if he accepts Real Madrid will need to find a replacement in the coming weeks and months.

Several names have already filtered through as possible targets and AS say Chelsea’s Havertz can be added to the list.

According to their information, the German star is a player that those in charge at Real Madrid ‘like a lot’ and he has ‘several points in his favour’ in terms of a transfer.

The first is his asking price, which is around €60m according to sites such as Transfermarkt and the second is his age, with the Chelsea man set to turn 24 this month. That would make him an ‘ideal’ player to act ‘as a bridge’ until the potential arrival of Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland in 2024.

They also like that Havertz can play as a second striker, which means that he would be ‘complimentary’ to Benzema if he were to end up staying.

Thus, a deal would make sense and Real Madrid’s interest would make sense, with journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon reporting they’ve long held an interest in the Chelsea forward.

“He was a player who was very much liked not in Madrid and that he was always going to be on the agenda of those in charge at Real Madrid and was on the list of possible signings,” he told his YouTube channel.

“It looks like that time may be approaching, the time when Real Madrid will be considering Havertz just as they did before the pandemic.

“Before the pandemic Kai Havertz was playing for Bayer Leverkusen where by the way he had very, very interesting goal scoring figures and also assists and was killing it in the Bundesliga.

“At that time Real Madrid had an agreement with the player as it has with Bellingham, as it has with Tchouaméni, with Camavinga, with this type of player that is to say a player who was on the agenda, that I was especially attentive to his situation.

“What happened was that the pandemic came, and Madrid closed the treasury and insisted they would not spend a euro more than necessary. In that moment Chelsea moved in to sign the player.”
