Olivier Giroud came close to leaving Chelsea in January, but his exit from Stamford Bridge stalled after the Blues failed to bring in a replacement for the striker.

Lazio were one of the clubs interested in the 33-year-old and he’s back on their transfer agenda for this summer.

That’s according to La Lazio Siamo Noi, who claim it’s necessary to understand if he would be an alternative to James Rodríguez or compliment the Real Madrid player. The Colombian has also emerged as a target for the Rome based club.

Earlier in May, Frank Lampard’s side exercised the option to extend the former Arsenal man’s contract until 2021.

Despite extending the contract, the report states the Blues are ‘willing to talk about’ the Frenchman because they will have Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham to lead their strike-force next season.

It’s claimed the Premier League club will ‘ask about €7-8m’ for the World Cup winner and the price quoted is affordable for Lazio.

La Lazio Siamo Noi explain the Italian club have ‘reconnected’ with Giroud’s agent Michael Manuello to find out if there is ‘room to convince’ the striker to leave Chelsea for Lazio this summer.
