Atletico Madrid are ready to move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson this summer and battle Newcastle United for his signature, to avoid repeating the mistake they made with current Magpies star Bruno Guimaraes.

That’s according to Marca, who cover Ederson today and how the Spanish want to learn their lesson from the past.

Ederson has been impressing for Atalanta this season, leading to suggestions that he will be on the move in the summer transfer window.

Newcastle are very much keen on a deal for him, with reports throughout January and since insisting they’re ready to spend big on him, with the latest last month insisting they’ll do everything to get him.

That’s alerted Atletico Madrid, who are also keen and now believe the time is to fight to ensure they win the rase.

They want to ‘fight for his incorporation’ and get ahead of the competition, having been stung in a similar case in the past.

The Spanish side had the opportunity to sign current Newcastle star Guimaraes earlier in his career and had a preferential option on him with Atlético Paranaense for €20m.

That was a figure they didn’t want to pay, or were unable to pay at the time, but have come to regret after seeing him shine at St James Park in the last few years.

They firmly accept they dropped the ball when it came to the Brazilian, who eventually went to Lyon and then Newcastle, and is now valued at €80m at the bare minimum.

Thus, they want to avoid making the same mistake with Ederson, who they know has suitors, including Newcastle, and so are now ready to make their move to ensure there is no repeat of the Guimaraes situation.
