Even though Real Sociedad seemed like the favourites to sign Donny van de Beek from Manchester United this summer, they’ve now ruled out the transfer.
Their stance was brought by their own president, Jokin Aperribay, in a press conference today.
As reported by El Desmarque, following the signing of Arsen Zahkaryan, the club chief was quizzed if they’re going after another midfielder. And that’s when the idea of a move for the Manchester United player was dismissed.
“I don’t think we will incorporate more midfielders. We have youngsters in whom we trust a lot and we have a commitment at home. Real are not thinking of incorporating two midfielders. At no time has been on the table,” said Aperribay.
That certainly comes out as a blow for Manchester United, who are spending the rest of the summer trying to offload players who are not in Erik ten Hag’s plans, and Van de Beek is clearly one of them.
The midfielder only made ten appearances for the club last season, mostly because of a knee injury, and even though he seems to be fully recovered from that, the situation still makes it unlikely that any interested club will make a big investment in his signing.
The Dutchman continues to have a contract with Manchester United until 2025, with an option for an extra year, and is valued by Transfermarkt at €13m.
