Barcelona are preparing a €75m package to sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City this summer, and Pep Guardiola could ‘open the door’ if the offer is right.

That’s according to Sport, who say the Catalan club are ‘making calculations’ and will offer as much as they can according to the economic possibilities at the club.

The La Liga champions are aware that the player will have to push Manchester City if he is to leave this summer but there is a strong belief City will do so if the offer is right.

The reality is that Barcelona see the operation as practically impossible and for them to sign Silva the stars would need to align but that hasn’t completely put them off.

They’re working out the finances, adding up the sales of Franck Kessie, Ousmane Dembele and the possible sale of Clement Lenglet plus a deal involving Barca studios and whether all of that combined will give them the finances to sign Silva.

The maximum they can offer is around €65m plus €10m in variables that would be almost guaranteed to be met at some point.

The payment of the fixed part of the deal would be in ‘stipulated terms’ and the midfielder would need to accept a contract which starts low but grows so he can fit into the wage cap.

Barcelona understand that Manchester City will ‘open the door’ to a sale if there is a ‘reasonable economic proposal’ and the Catalans believe a package worth €75m overall would represent that.

Silva’s own wishes is a key part of the negotiation as the Portuguese midfielder has made it clear he wants to leave Manchester City. His priority is a move to Barcelona, and he’s already refused to go to Saudi Arabia.

If Barcelona press to sign him then he will do his part to try and make the deal happen, although he has been made aware City would prefer not to sell him.

The Blaugrana are very clear on the economic conditions they can meet and now want to know plainly if the option is there, and they should hold negotiations or if it would be wiser to abandon the idea now and move on.
