Barcelona are interested in Eric García, but they have been unwilling to pay the fee requested by Manchester City to complete his signing.
On September 29th, Sport reported the Citizens, who value the centre-back around €30-40m, found the La Liga side’s first offer of €10m ‘insufficient’.
It was suggested the Blaugrana are ‘working on an intermediate figure’ to sign the 19-year-old, but no figures were mentioned.
Wednesday’s edition of AS once again explains Ronald Koeman’s side made an initial offer of €10m for the defender.
It’s claimed the Catalan club are ready to raise their offer, but are ‘not willing to go beyond €15m’. Pep Guardiola’s side would now accept to let the youngster leave for €18m.
Barca ‘urgently need’ a new centre-back, while City are interested in making cash through García’s sale.
For now, the Premier League club has not given the green light for García to leave City, and Barcelona are not ready to meet the demands set by Guardiola’s side.
According to Sport, Ronald Koeman’s side continue to work on bringing García back ‘home’, and are ‘optimistic’ about the Spain international’s arrival at Camp Nou in the ‘coming days’.
Barca are willing to make an economic effort to complete the ‘strategic signing’, Sport warns they will not pay an ‘off-market price’ to acquire the youngster’s services.
The La Liga giants are ready to invest around €15m if no other players are involved in the deal.
Those in charge at Barca expect the player to join the club as they intensify contacts with City for his signing.
We will know the outcome of these negotiations in less than a week’s time.
