Earlier on Wednesday, we covered claims made in Italy that Napoli won’t give up on signing Max Kilman despite Wolverhampton rejecting their initial bid.

La Repubblica, relayed by Area Napoli, now state the Serie A winners have been working on this operation for a while as the centre-back is a priority target for them in this window.

It’s said the 26-year-old would favour a move to Napoli as he wants to play in the Champions League. Wolves, who have now softened their stance, have ‘opened up to the sale’.

The report adds Julen Lopetegui’s side are ready to part ways with the player if they were to receive an important proposal. They want €40m for the defender but Napoli aren’t willing to meet these demands for now.

Behind the scenes, the Naples club have been in ‘constant contact’ with Kilman’s agent but the two parties haven’t yet found an agreement. Should they find one, La Repubblica state it would be a ‘precious ally’ for them to convince Wolves to lower their fee demand.

Meanwhile, journalist Luca Cerchione took to Twitter to state Napoli are ‘one step away’ from sealing the deal for Kilman for €35m. He adds the player will be offered a deal worth €2.8m [likely net] per year.
