Spanish side Alavés are ‘negotiating’ with Liverpool over a deal to sign defender Anderson Arroyo on loan next season.

That’s according to El Correo, who say the operation is ‘not an easy task’ due to considerable competition for the 22-year-old.

They report that La Liga teams such as Elche are also interested in the defender, and Liverpool would prefer for Arroyo to be playing in the ‘top flight’ next season.

Alavés, though, are ‘confident’ they can convince the Reds with an ‘interesting project’ in Spain’s second flight.

Arroyo spent last season on loan Mirandés, the latest in a series of loan deals since he joined Liverpool from Colombian side Fortaleza in 2018.

Since then, he’s had spells with KAA Gent, Mlada Boleslav, Salamanca and then Mirandés last season.

He particularly stood out last season, according to the newspaper, with his height, anticipation and ability to bring the ball out from defence among his strongest traits. He was also among the players with the best pass completion ratio last season.

All of those things did not go unnoticed by Alavés, who are ‘hoping to sign him’ alongside midfielder Jon Guridi from Real Sociedad.
