Ever since it was expected that Achraf Hakimi would be leaving Inter for either Paris Saint-Germain or Chelsea, the Serie A side set themselves the task of finding a cheap replacement.

The roads swiftly led to Hector Bellerin, who appears to be their favourite for the role, although they still need to convince Arsenal to let him go on a loan.

The Spaniard has been pushed to one side by Mikel Arteta of late, failing to start as regularly towards the back end of the last campaign, which helped spread the rumours we are now seeing.

And yet, according to Inter Dipendenza, the negotiations between Inter and the Arsenal defender have been going for longer than has been reported.

They state talks have been ongoing ‘for around a month’, which means that the club ‘never had doubts regarding Hakimi’s replacement’.

While the Gunners man is top of their list, the names that follow are Denzel Dumfries, Manuel Lazzarri and Davide Zappacosta.

As said above, it remains to be seen if a deal can be struck with Arsenal, but if talks between Inter and Bellerin have been going on for that long, there seems to be some hope an agreement can be reached.

Otherwise, they’d have given up a long time ago.
