Sevilla are unlikely to make a move for Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe this summer, unless they were to sell one of their current attacking options first.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say ‘it does not seem likely’ that the Spaniard’s will be in the market for the Ivory Coast forward.
Several reports over the last week or so have indicated that Arsenal are ready to cut their losses on Pepe, who has failed to live up to expectations since arriving from Lille in 2019.
Sevilla have been named as one of his potential suitors, and Estadio say it would not be ‘unusual’ if they were keen given they tried to sign him before his move to the Emirates.
Director of football Monchi has often revived his interest in players down the years, so it’s not ‘surprising’ that Sevilla have been linked with a move for Pepe.
The fact he could also be available for a bargain price, with Arsenal knowing this summer is the best time to sell him as he enters the final two years of his deal, would also work in Sevilla’s favour.
They, though, have the right-wing position ‘well covered’ with players such as Lucas Ocampos, Suso, and Tecatito Corona.
Thus ‘it does not seem likely’ that they would make a move to add Pepe to that list, particularly when they will want to spend their money elsewhere.
That could change if one of those three players were to leave, with all eyes on Ocampos, who has been an ‘object of desire’ in the Premier League for several years.
Until he or one of his teammates departs, though, the likelihood of Sevilla moving to sign Pepe from Arsenal is low, even if Monchi is a known fan.
