Lazio are making ‘the final squeeze’ for Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri as Maurizio Sarri continues to strengthen his squad.

That’s according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, who say the Italian side need at least two more signings to satisfy Sarri, who has already secured seven new players this summer.

They’re pushing ahead to get those players and Palmieri, who he signed during his time at Chelsea is one of his targets. In fact, he ‘will do everything’ to secure his signature.

The idea is to sign the full-back on loan but he would have to give up part of the €4.5m a year salary he earns at Chelsea for that to happen.

That is something the player is likely to be willing to do as he ‘would gladly’ work under Sarri again and become an ‘immovable starter’ at Lazio this season.

The Serie A side are yet to find an agreement with Chelsea, although they would like to do so by 14th August so they can have Emerson in their squad for the opening league game against Bologna.

There’s still plenty of time for negotiations with Chelsea, then, but with the player’s willingness there that’s at least one major hurdle overcome.
