PSV Eindhoven are ‘making attempts’ to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite on a permanent basis.

That’s according to journalist Rik Elfrink, who says the Dutch side would like to keep the defender rather than let him return to Goodison Park.

Branthwaite has been on loan with PSV since the summer, reuniting with Marcel Brands in the Netherlands in search of regular playing time that wasn’t on offer at Everton.

He’s made 12 appearances in the Eredivisie this season, as well as featuring in Champions League qualifying and the Europa League since his arrival.

There had been talk of him returning to Everton this month as he hadn’t played as much as they were expecting him to but PSV fought hard to keep him. Branthwaite likewise wanted to stay and so his original loan deal remained.

It seems PSV are now keen to make that stay a longer one, though, with Elfrink reporting that they are ‘making attempts’ to sing the 20-year-old ‘permanently’.

What those attempts are isn’t made clear but they are currently flush with cash from the sales of Noni Madueke and Cody Gakpo so they do have funds available to negotiate with Everton.

Whether the Blues will be willing to sell the defender is up for debate, but PSV are going to try regardless and it appears that talks are already underway.
