At Newcastle United since 2020, Jamal Lewis has yet to feature under Eddie Howe this season because of a calf issue following some time off with a groin injury last year.

The Magpies have since signed Matt Targett and also have Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett who can play at left-back, meaning they could potentially afford to lose the 24-year-old.

We say this because OGC Nice are reportedly interested in the Newcastle defender, per L’Equipe, having studied various profiles and settled on the Northern Ireland international.

That’s why they want to ‘advance’ on the signing, making Lewis their ‘new priority’ to bolster the left-hand side of their defence.

It’s a short article from L’Equipe, who fail to provide any sort of details regarding the formula of a potential approach or what Newcastle would end up asking for their player.

Eddie Howe has stated in the past that he does believe in Lewis, but we all know football is a business and if the right offer were to arrive on the Magpies’ desk, they could end up considering it.

As for whether Nice do make that move, we’ll have to wait and see.
