On Tuesday, AS stated Atlético Madrid haven’t refused Manchester City’s offer for Rodrigo Riquelme and are willing to sit down with the Premier League winners over a potential deal for the winger.

AS didn’t mention the details of the Citizens’ proposal or the fee requested by the La Liga side to sanction the 23-year-old’s sale in the summer window.

Wednesday’s Marca provides more details on this as well as Atlético’s stance on the player.

Pep Guardiola and his side were ‘delighted’ with the Spaniard’s displays while he was on loan at Girona. He’s also attracted attention from a few other clubs from his country.

It’s claimed Los Rojiblancos have ‘made it known’ to Manchester City and Riquelme’s other suitors that they will not listen to any offers below €30m. This is much less than his release clause, which is reportedly set at €70m.

Marca state Atlético’s demand has become an ‘insurmountable wall’ for the majority of his Spanish suitors. Meanwhile, City don’t offer more than €15m as they believe he won’t be a regular under Guardiola next season.

As it stands, Riquelme is set to join Atlético’s pre-season training after his vacation. The newspaper adds the final decision on his future will be made by Diego Simeone.
