It appears that Philippe Coutinho is now trying to force away from Aston Villa and has his heart set on returning to Brazil.

That is what Goal in Brazil are reporting on Wednesday afternoon, who claim that Corinthians, the interested club, have ‘high hopes’ of being able to field the midfielder for their 2023 season.

Coutinho is said to have ‘asked’ Aston Villa for ‘permission to return’ to his home country, because he wants to ‘make a name for himself again’.

Rekindling some form during his initial loan spell at Villa Park under Steven Gerrard, the former Barcelona man has struggled to do the same since signing permanently.

This is why there is talk of him leaving Aston Villa in the near future, and talks with Corinthians are ‘being brokered by Kia Joorabchian’, who is Coutinho’s agent.

As has been reported before, the issue that needs to be sorted is the financial one, since the player earns quite a lot more than the Brazilian side can afford, and he ‘would have to reduce his wages by more than 50%’.

However, he seems ‘willing’ to do that to force a move back to Brazil, and while there is ‘also a chance of a friendly termination’ between Coutinho and Aston Villa, that option is ‘considered more remote’.

The Premier League side want to ‘recover part of the money spent’, but there have been ‘no conversations in this regard’.
