As AS Roma continue to be interested in the signing of Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz, the midfielder is now said to be the ‘first choice’ for the Giallorossi this summer.

Those claims are made by Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport, who sound confident that the player wants to ‘change air and accept a different challenge’ in the transfer window.

José Mourinho wants to reinforce the midfield position and the Aston Villa star is said to be ‘in pole’, as the Serie A side have the ‘dream’ of bringing him in.

The biggest problem for Roma, however, is the price demanded by the Premier League side. It’s said he has a valuation of €30m, ‘if not €35m’.

The Serie A side could only make it work with a smaller price, and should try to convince Aston Villa of lowering that request, especially since he only has one year left on his deal at Villa Park.

In case Roma don’t get to sign Douglas Luiz, then they have a few alternatives on the table, such as Nemanja Matic, Grant Xhaka and Maxime Lopez.
