Every time the Portuguese media now writes about Sporting’s interest in Brighton & Hove Albion fullback Tariq Lamptey, it sounds like the Lions are nearly giving up on their pursuit.

This subject is today brought back by newspaper O Jogo, who highlight the difficulties the Lisbon side are having with this chase.

It all starts with the price demanded by Brighton, with the outlet claiming the Seagulls request around €10m for the sale and currently reject ‘any talk’ for a potential loan.

What also takes out Sporting’s confidence is that Lamptey himself would rather stay in the Premier League if he has that chance. That’s why he currently ‘freezes’ any other possibility on the table, and is unlikely to actually consider moving to Portugal at this stage.

The Lions continue to look for a right-back and are now set to turn their attention to other targets, unless the conditions to take Lamptey out of Brighton start looking more attractive to them.

The 22-year-old, who made 26 appearances for the Seagulls this season, has a contract with the Premier League side running until 2025.
