Just six months after Watford made Gerard Deulofeu’s deal permanent, the Spaniard was linked with a move to AC Milan in January.

The forward spent a short period on loan at the San Siro in 2017 and the Rossoneri were planning to make an approach for him in the mid-season transfer window, but they were unsuccessful in their efforts.

Italian website Calciomercato has now come up with an explanation over why the former Barcelona and Everton man didn’t join Gennaro Gattuso’s side last month.

It is explained that Milan sporting director Leonardo first contacted the 24-year-old’s agent in December, but he was not a priority target for the Serie A outfit.

However, having failed to land other targets and after losing Gonzalo Higuain to Chelsea, the Italian outfit’s chief began to talk to the Hornets ‘more concretely’ for the transfer of Deulofeu.

Javi Gracia’s side were clear that unless and until they receive an offer of €30m, their player will not leave Vicarage Road.

It’s clear that Milan never met Watford’s conditions to sign the player, which is why Deulofeu will continue with the Premier League club.
