At the weekend there have been reports in the English media that Manchester United are scouting Kyrlia Sovetov striker Aleksandr Sobolev.

It was claimed the Premier League side are looking to strengthen their squad in January and that the Red Devils have sent a scout to Russia ‘numerous times’ to follow the player.

Quizzed about the potential interest from Manchester United, Kyrlia Sovetov chief executive Vitaly Shashkov said to Championat: “I don’t know about Manchester United interest. Is it real? Sobolev is growing and progressing each day. He is fully focused on football at the moment but everything is possible in life.”

Manchester United lost Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku in the summer and the Premier League giants failed to bring a replacement. After eight games, Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s side have only managed to score nine league goals and are desperate to improve those statistics.

Sobolev’s side Kyrlia Sovetov are sitting in 11th place after twelve games in the Russian Super League but despite his club’s poor form, the 22 year old Russian striker is impressing with his performances.

Sobolev has scored 10 goals in 12 games and has subsequently been called up to the Russia squad that will face Scotland on Thursday.
