Following Napoli’s dismantling of Liverpool in the Champions League last week, there was a lot of excitement surrounding Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is now preparing to face Rangers FC in the same competition.

The Georgian winger was the star of the show against the Anfield side, and it was normal for some to try and get an interview with him ahead of the game at Ibrox, where they would face Giovanni Van Bronckhorst’s team.

It appeared a newspaper in Scotland had managed to do so, with Kvaratskhelia reportedly speaking to them about the game against Liverpool and the upcoming fixture against Rangers.

The player was quoted as saying Napoli were ‘very happy to have beaten’ a club of the Reds’ stature, while they now ‘have to think’ about the game in Glasgow.

He allegedly said that the match against Rangers ‘will not be an easy’ one, as the atmosphere at Ibrox would help the Scottish side.

We have used the words reportedly and allegedly because CalcioNapoli24 in Italy are now claiming that the quotes ‘were invented’.

In fact, Kvaratskhelia ‘never declared’ anything of what he said, whether it be about Rangers or Liverpool, with Napoli themselves contacting the outlet to set the story straight.

An interesting turn of events which we’ll be keeping an eye on.
