With Newcastle United coming in late to sign Alexander Isak for £63m, Real Sociedad had little time to find a replacement for the Swede.

In the end, they decided to plump on Umar Sadiq, who was already scoring a lot at UD Almeria, and the La Liga side spent £18m on the Nigeria international.

He got off to a good start, scoring on his debut against Atlético Madrid, before making appearances against Manchester United and Getafe at the weekend, but that’s as far as his season will go, since the Newcastle signing’s replacement is now out for the remainder of the campaign.

That’s according to Real Sociedad themselves, who report the striker has suffered a ‘rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament’, and he will undergo surgery to sort the problem out.

Marca claim the player ‘will not be able to play more games’ in the current season, which is a huge blow for the club, who now have to make do without him.

Much like the man who replaced him, Alexander Isak also got off to a good start with Newcastle, as he scored on his debut for the Magpies in the 2-1 loss against Liverpool.

He was unable to help his side overcome Crystal Palace at St James’ Park a few days later, with the next opportunity for him to help Newcastle to likely come on Saturday against AFC Bournemouth.
