A couple of articles emerged on Thursday about a La Repubblica, relayed by Calciomercato, report regarding Maurizio Sarri and a job offer from Roma.
The claims are that a few days ago, Franco Baldini, the Serie A president’s right hand man, sat down with the Chelsea manager to offer him Eusebio di Francesco’s job.
Over at Il Tempo, however, the timing is rather different.
The local Rome newspaper state the pair had dinner ‘a few weeks ago’, around the time when Gonzalo Higuain was arriving at Chelsea, but the explicit details of the conversation aren’t revealed.
There is heavy implication that the Roma job was discussed, and Il Tempo state Sarri, currently struggling at London, ‘wouldn’t be against’ a return to Italy.
A lot of things need to happen first, as the Serie A side aren’t ready to part ways with Di Francesco just yet, as the manager’s future is tied to future results.Should he fail to qualify for the Champions League, he would be shown the door.
As for Sarri, the English press have made it clear he could be out of a job this time next week if things don’t go well against Manchester City in the Carling Cup final.
Roma are said to have been huge fans of Sarri over the years, attempting to get him before he went to Napoli.
They might get their man in the summer, but we’ll have to wait to find that out. As will Chelsea fans.
