Chelsea signing Joao Félix has been warned he will need to change his attitude if he is to be a success in the Premier League.

The Portuguese star completed a move to Chelsea yesterday, joining on loan until the end of the season from Atlético Madrid.

He is something of an emergency signings for the Blues, who are in desperate need of offensive reinforcements to turn around a poor run of form.

Whether Félix is the answer remains to be seen, with the forward having struggled to fulfil the potential he initially showed at Benfica.

He has often seemed ill-fitted with Diego Simeone’s style of play and that is reflected in his numbers for the Spanish club, having managed just 34 goals and 18 assists in 131 games in all competitions.

Simeone has been blamed for his struggled but Santi Cañizares insists that is unfair and Félix will have to change his attitude if he is turn things around at Chelsea.

“The club is not to blame for anything with Joao Félix,” he told Marca.

“On the contrary: they put a trust in him that perhaps he didn’t deserve, they hired him for a fortune. He has talent, but he has to change his personality. He is the most damaged because the club paid an amount that perhaps was for more contracted players.

“The most important thing a coach can count on is the will of the player and the player has never been humble enough to overcome difficult moments at the club.

“When he has not seen himself as a starter, he has turned his nose up; when he has seen that he is not the leader of the team, he has not stepped forward.”
