Besides all the reports from the English and the Portuguese media about Chelsea’s pursuit for Enzo Fernandez, the Argentine press has also been bringing constant updates on that chase.

It turns out there’s a very good piece today coming from TyC Sports, with journalist Cesar Luis Merlo bringing many details about the most recent outcomes of these negotiations.

It’s claimed that despite reports saying Fernandez’s transfer to Chelsea was done, that was never true, and the chances of that deal have actually collapsed now.

TyC recalls that Benfica’s request to let the midfielder leave was the triggering of his release clause, which stands at €120m.

Chelsea tried a solution by offering €127m in several instalments, and the talks went on for days.

With the player missing out on trainings following his trip to Argentina for New Year’s Eve, the Eagles became more open to negotiating him.

It turns out the Blues then changed their conditions, and mad at the situation, the Lisbon side set a deadline of 48 hours to get things done.

The clubs met in person on Tuesday and Wednesday, with Chelsea represented by director Christopher Vivell, with talks monitored by Todd Boehly.

Then they placed a bid worth €90m, to be paid in four instalments, and included players in the offer.

Benfica were left ‘angry’, going back to demand the €120m, and said they wouldn’t change their mind.

They put the meeting to an end, and according to TyC Sports, the operation is now ‘dead’ unless the Blues pay that price.
