Marc Cucurella has seen his playing time restricted since Mauricio Pochettino arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer.

The left-back has made one appearance this season and that came in the Blues’ EFL Cup win over AFC Wimbledon last month. The manager has favoured Ben Chilwell and Ian Maatsen ahead of him in the league fixtures.

Sport state the 25-year-old’s situation at Chelsea is ‘worrying’ after his ‘nightmare start’ to the season.

The Spain international first arrived in England when Brighton & Hove Albion signed him in 2021, and he starred in his debut season at The Amex.

This resulted in him drawing interest from top clubs including Manchester City, and Chelsea finally won the battle to sign him in 2022. Last season, Cucurella made 33 appearances but wasn’t able to replicate his Brighton form at the west London club.

Sport believe the former Barcelona man’s ‘desire and motivation is amply equipped’ for the Premier League and it clashes with the chaos at Chelsea due to ‘a constant rain of signings’.

It’s to be noted the Blues haven’t signed a new left-back since bringing Cucurella to the club a year ago.

The Spaniard has to work hard in order to win Pochettino’s trust and Sport are confident he’ll start enjoying minutes sooner rather than later, due to his qualities.
