Chelsea are ‘planning a new assault’ on AC Milan for forward Rafael Leão in the January transfer window after ‘trying hard’ in the last two weeks of the window.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who say the Blues have used their recent double header against Milan to talk about Leão and players in their own squad that could suit the Italian side.

There are currently ‘good relations’ between the two clubs and that means there will not be any forcing of the situation.

However, Leão has a €150m release clause in his current contract and that needs to be taken into consideration in negotiations, something that has opened up ‘more prospects’.

Milan would prefer not to listen to offers either in January or next summer, with Paolo Maldini even stating that they want to renew the forward’s contract before the World Cup.

Talks are on in with the player’s entourage in hope of making that happen, but they know there are sharks in the water and Chelsea are one of them.

PSG too, are circling as their director of football Luis Campos knows Leão well given he was the man who took him to former club Lille. He would be open to a reunion in Paris.

Chelsea, therefore, could face big competition for the Portuguese star’s signature and perhaps that is why they have used their recent meetings with Milan as a way to open the door to negotiations.
