As Chelsea close in on completing the signing of Vasco da Gama wonderkid Andrey Santos, we now get conflicting claims regarding how much that deal will cost.

When the Brazilian media first reported the deal, they claimed the price was being kept secret by both clubs. Now those revealing the figures bring different information.

It was first Globo Esporte who turned up saying Chelsea’s offer is worth €40m. It’s said the clubs are just sorting out the final details before the contract is signed.

However, journalist Lucas Pedrosa, who broke the news about the move, says the numbers are way below that. He says the Blues are spending €20m, leaving Vasco with no percentage of a future move.

That’s quite a big difference, even though both amounts represent a big deal for an 18-year-old midfielder who hasn’t even played in top flight football yet.

The Brazilian media is usually very accurate with that kind of information, so it shouldn’t take long until there’s common-ground between the local sources. The deal was apparently closed on Wednesday afternoon, with information coming out little by little.
