Following the strong rumours in the past few days saying Erik Ten Hag is one of the favourites to take charge of Manchester United next season, the Dutch press is obviously concerned about the manager’s potential departure from Ajax.

ESPN Netherlands features a few words from former Dutch midfielder Willem van Hanegem. The Feyenoord legend brought his opinion on the move and claimed the coach could be making the right decision by joining the Red Devils.

“I’d like to see him at Man United,” said van Hanegem (via Soccer News).

“I think that’s where he can get the most credit. Getting credit is important for a coach. He can change course there if he has good people around him.”

Willem van Hanegem also commented on the season Ajax have been having, pointing out how brilliant they’d been in the first few months.

“It depends. I really liked them very much. They played bizarrely well at the start of the season. I thought: they will be a coasting champion. But if I check all the matches against the very small clubs…”

He suggested things have since dropped off, with Ajax now forced to battle against PSV, who they are two points ahead of, for the title. That wasn’t expected some months ago, with the feeling being it would have been a calmer end to the season.

The Dutch boss has been in charge of Ajax since 2017. There he’s won two Eredivisie trophies, and is currently on top of the table in the hunt for a third title.
