Having appointed Vincent Kompany as their new manager in June, it was no surprise to see Burnley look at the Belgian market to bolster their squad in the summer window.

The Championship side took five players from the Jupiler Pro League and it would have been even more had they completed signings of more players from the same league.

On August 25th, we covered claims from Belgium that explained Burnley are interested in Sint-Truidense VV’s Ameen Al-Dakhil and the two clubs are €1m apart in their valuation.

This information was shared by journalist Sacha Tavolieri and he again took to Twitter on Thursday to provide an update on why the deal for the defender didn’t take shape.

According to Tavolieri, the two clubs came close to agreeing a deal for the 20-year-old and the difference in valuation was €300,000 on bonuses. Kompany’s side had already agreed personal terms with the centre-back.

The deal collapsed because Sint-Truidense made the operation ‘complicated’.

Tavolieri doesn’t provide reasons for this, but the situation forced Burnley to sign Jordan Beyer on a loan deal from Borussia Mönchengladbach instead.
