Bayer Leverkusen face tough competition from Brighton & Hove Albion in the race to sign Toulouse’s Zakaria Aboukhlal in the summer window.

That’s according to Fussball Transfers, who state the Bundesliga side like the winger’s profile but haven’t taken any firm steps so far.

He scored 15 goals and registered five assists from 42 games last season and his fine form has seen him attract attention from multiple clubs, including Brighton.

It’s claimed other clubs have also ‘asked loosely’ to find out the conditions needed to carry out the deal but Roberto De Zerbi’s side are a ‘step further in the talks’ to sign the 23-year-old.

The Ligue 1 side aren’t pleased with the Morocco international’s behaviour off the pitch, which is why the report states they are ‘ready for [a] sale’ in this window. It’s explained that Toulouse need €8-10m to sanction his sale.

Dominik Schneider covered the report for Fussball Transfers and took to Twitter to add that Brighton, at the moment, are the ‘favourite’ club to sign Aboukhlal.

On May 18th, Lions de l’Atlas reported the Premier League ‘woos’ the Moroccan and also mentioned about the Seagulls’ desire to secure his services.
