On Monday, Clarín reported Boca Juniors haven’t accepted Brighton & Hove Albion’s offer of $9m [€8.2m] plus 10% of a future move for Valentín Barco. They have insisted a deal will only be possible if his release clause is exercised.

The left-back has a $10m [€9.1m] clause and that will increase to $14m [€12.8m] from Tuesday.

According to journalist César Luis Merlo, the Seagulls have activated Barco’s $10m clause. He states the 19-year-old’s ‘destination will be Brighton’, who have been chasing him for several months.

César Luis Merlo adds Barco is set to sign a deal until 2029 at The Amex and his lawyers are working on the ‘legal aspects’, to conclude the transfer.

TyC Sports provide a background on how Roberto De Zerbi’s side came to the conclusion of activating the clause.

Boca Juniors refused to accept Brighton’s second offer, after which the latter’s emissaries had a meeting with the Argentine’s entourage on Monday afternoon. This is where they made a decision to trigger Barco’s $10m clause, also because the figure will increase by $4m from Tuesday.

TyC Sports state the teenager’s camp have informed his current employer and Brighton are waiting for Boca Juniors to share their bank account number, to deposit the money. If not, they will send it to the Argentine Football Association [AFA].

The report adds he’ll represent the Argentina U23s at the pre-Olympic tournament later this month and will arrive at Brighton in February.
