Everton midfielder Amadou Onana is looking increasingly likely to be a part of Belgium’s World Cup squad after being the ‘bright spot’ during the last international break.

That’s according to Sport/Foot Magazine, who cover the Everton star today and believe he is now a shoo-in for the World Cup in Qatar.

Onana joined Everton in a £31.5m deal from Lille in the summer and has been starring in the Blues midfield ever since with a series of impressive displays.

It’s earned him international recognition too, with the latest international break seeing him return to the squad after making his debut against the Netherlands back in March.

He sat out the 2-1 win over Wales but managed 75 minutes in the 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands three days later.

His display in that game earned him a wave of rave reviews in his homeland, including from Belgium boss Roberto Martinez, and now Sport/Foot Magazine have joined in the chorus.

“There is less division over Amadou Onana. There, too, I am in the large group of optimists,” their journalist writes.

“Big, powerful, a huge radius of action and good feet. The bright spot during less clear days.

“We forgive RSCA and Zulte Waregem – because not every youthful talent is a certainty – and we understand Everton, the team that brought Amadou to England for €40m.”
