Newcastle United are pursuing São Paulo defender Lucas Beraldo, according to claims from Brazil.

On Twitter, Tropa Tricolor writes that the Magpies are set to send a scout to watch the 19-year-old in action on Saturday.

The same account had already reported Newcastle’s interest in the centre-back, claiming they compete with AC Milan, FC Porto and Real Madrid for the signing.

Now the Magpies should see him playing a league match against Goiás at home.

A couple of months ago, we covered a couple of reports from Brazil which said São Paulo would demand just over €8m to sell the defender.

It turns out that Beraldo has been showing huge potential lately, and that price should have a significant increase.

Journalist André Hernan featured a video on Monday where he says São Paulo’s intention is to hold Beraldo for at least one more season, and they will use his €60m release clause to protect him. The reporter acknowledges that European clubs and scouts are interested in the player, but he doesn’t name Newcastle or anyone else.
