Despite little news in England about it, there is a very strong claim coming out of Italy that Manchester United could be close to changing owners.

It’s no secret that the Glazer family have put the Old Trafford up for sale, and it was quickly made clear by Sir Jim Ratcliffe that he was interested in taking over.

The British businessman and his company Ineos already own OGC Nice in France, but that hasn’t stopped them from going for Manchester United as well.

And, according to TuttoMercatoWeb, Ratcliffe is ‘close to acquiring’ the Premier League club, in what they describe as ‘important news collected early’ by themselves.

They explain a deal for ‘over £4bn’ is currently at ‘an advanced stage’, although we should really wait for news out of England regarding this before fully believing it.

Why an Italian website would know about this before any others is a question that we need to ask, but it’s a very strong claim to be making at this stage.

We will have to wait and see, as Manchester United prepare to face Reading in the FA Cup on Saturday.
