Bayern Munich’s operation to sign Jamal Musiala from Chelsea back in 2019 is today recalled in the German media.

The reason for it is an interview that supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge today gave to T-Online.

In quotes brought by Spox, the club chief explained that he had some fortune in that negotiation with Chelsea, as it seems like they didn’t expect such a fantastic outcome when they first acquired him.

“In hindsight, it was a lucky twist of fate,” he said.

“His development is great, we don’t need to talk about it. The movement talent, the dribbling, his goal threat and how he prepares goals – what he does is at a very high level.”

As recalled by Spox, Bayern Munich’s initial effort had been to sign Callun Hudson-Odoi at the time.

They couldn’t find a deal with Chelsea for the transfer, and ended um signing Jama Musiala from their academy instead, in a deal intermediated by Hudson-Odoi’s brother Bradley.

Things ended up not going great for Hudson-Odoi, who first left Chelsea on a loan to Bayer Leverkusen for the 2022/23 season, and then ended up getting sold to Nottingham Forest last summer on a €3.5m deal.

Musiala, meanwhile, had a meteoric rise at Bayern Munich, as the midfielder, who has 12 goals and seven assists for the Bundesliga side this season, is now valued by Transfermarkt at €110m, despite having cost them just €200k.
