Wanting to strengthen his attack before the end of the transfer window, Graham Potter is going to have to make do without Christian Kouamé.

The Ivory Coast international was seemingly high on Brighton & Hove Albion’s wishlist, but Fiorenina have decided that he isn’t going anywhere.

It was stated on Monday that the Seagulls were pushing to get a transfer over the line in the next few days, and Corriere dello Sport go as far as saying they even made a bid.

They point out Brighton ‘had overtaken Empoli with an offer over the weekend’, but the Serie A side then put their foot down.

The newspaper explain that before Monday’s afternoon training session, those in charge of Fiorentina ‘sat down with the attacker in the presence of Vincenzo Italiano’, with the conversation ending with the parties deciding ‘to continue together by mutual agreement’.

Part of this was due to the ‘excellent impact’ he had against Napoli at the weekend, with the game ending in a 0-0.

A blow for Brighton then, who will have to look elsewhere for a new forward in the coming days.
