The Italian media never really believe that Italian footballers leave Italy and are fully happy afterwards. There’s always a feeling that they must want to return to the country of their birth, because Italy is so wonderful.
West Ham fans will know this has been the case with Angelo Ogbonna, who has been linked with a Hammers exit, and a return to Italy, in pretty much every transfer window since he joined the club in 2015.
Now it’s the turn of Gianluca Scamacca.
The 23-year-old moved to West Ham in the summer window in a big money move from Sassuolo. Given the Premier League club paid around £35m for the forward, they’re hardly going to be looking to part ways soon.
Ciro Venerato is a journalist who focuses on the Naples club, and he’s quoted by AreaNapoli as saying: “If offers exceeding €100m should arrive, the club will evaluate the options and the different circumstances. Broja and Scamacca are two sure names among the eight forwards monitored by Napoli.”
Would West Ham be interested? Perhaps not, much will depend on the rest of the season. But in Italy there’ll be some confidence Scamacca would be tempted, so he can return to the country.
