Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong has admitted he is open to returning to Manchester City in the future, if the opportunity is presented to him.

The full-back has been speaking to Marca regarding his career to date and where that may take him as he continues to impress in the Bundesliga.

Frimpong began his career in Manchester City’s youth ranks, making it to the U23s before a €380,000 move to Celtic in September 2019.

He established himself as a first team star in Scotland, impressing enough to earn an €11m move to Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021.

He’s not looked back since, establishing a dangerous partnership with Moussa Diaby before the latter’s move to Aston Villa this summer and racking up 12 goals and 20 assists in 96 games for the club so far.

Last season saw him manage nine goals and 11 assists in 48 games in total, impressive numbers for someone who is predominantly a defender.

It’s seen him regularly linked with a move to the Premier League and Frimpong admits he’d be happy to return to Manchester City if they ever came knocking.

“Guardiola, really, was not my coach. I only met him a handful of times when I went up to train with the first team, so I can only talk about Xabi (Alonso),” he said when asked to compare the two managers.

“It would be great (to return) … but I don’t know. They have just won the Champions League and are the best team in the world. In the future we will see.”
