Federico Fazio has done excellently to turn his career around this season. Clearly not part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans at Tottenham Hotspur, Fazio last season went out on loan to former club Sevilla.
The one club to push things was AS Roma, and when Fazio arrived on loan it was taken as something of a gamble. Tottenham were happy for another loan, with Pochettino content to have Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Kevin Wimmer and Eric Dier as central defensive options.
Fazio’s collapsed reputation meant Roma fans weren’t hugely excited, but the Argentine defender has certainly impressed them since, with both his performances and character. Italian newspaper La Repubblica report that there was a clause in the contract making the deal permanent after a certain number of games.
It’s stated that Fazio has now met that number and therefore the transfer will be completed, with Roma paying Tottenham what now looks to be a bargain €3.2m.
