Wednesday’s edition of Sport has a big front page story on Barcelona agreeing a deal to sign Eric Garcia. The defender’s contract expires at the end of June and he can arrive on a free transfer from Manchester City.

There’s also a little bit on the futures of Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay, who also have deals expiring at the end of the current season.

Over the weekend there were claims from England of an agreed deal between the Liverpool player and Barcelona, however, that was quickly and strongly dismissed in the Catalan media.

There is interest in Wijnaldum, but a final decision hasn’t been made yet. Sport report it’s the same situation with Depay, and Barcelona will decide ‘in the coming days’ whether to act on their interest and go through with free transfer attempts.

Both Dutchmen want to join the Blaugrana so it wouldn’t be too difficult to agree deals.

According to Sport, free transfers will play a major part in Barcelona’s future project, presumably allowing the odd big signing here or there.
