Barcelona are ‘interested’ in Bayern Munich star David Alaba, according to Sport.

The 28-year-old’s current deal with the Bundesliga club will expire after this season and the two parties haven’t found an agreement after months of negotiations.

Hansi Flick’s side have already withdrawn their renewal proposal after the defender failed to accept their latest offer.

The Austria international’s current situation will allow to him join any club, including Barcelona, on a free transfer next summer.

His ability to operate as a left-back, centre-back and in midfield makes him an ‘interesting player’ for the Catalan club’s technical leaders. It’s claimed the La Liga side have ‘maintained contacts’ with Alaba for the last few weeks.

Sport, however, adds the contacts with his entourage have ‘not borne any fruit’ because of the player’s ‘very high economic demands’ of €15m net per season, plus a signing on bonus, to join Ronald Koeman’s side as a free agent.

Pini Zahavi, his agent, would also want a large payment.

Barca find Alaba’s ‘astronomical’ demands ‘totally unaffordable’ due to their economic situation.

For now, Barcelona have ‘put aside’ any negotiations with Zahav, and a dose of realism is needed for the agent and player if they have any hope of a move to the Camp Nou.
