Aston Villa will have to make Sevilla an ‘offer out of the market’ if they wish to sign defender Diego Carlos this summer.

That’s according to Diario de Sevilla, who cover the reports from England today regarding Aston Villa’s interest in the Brazilian.

It’s been claimed that Steven Gerrard is a big fan of the centre-back and thus has put him on his list of potential options this summer as he looks to bolster his defence.

That report made it clear Aston Villa would need to sell before they could buy, and the asking price that Sevilla would put on their man, plus his wages, could prove prohibitive.

Diario de Sevilla now cover that and explain that Carlos currently has a release clause in his contract worth €75m.

It would be ‘difficult’ for any English side to reach such a figure, but there is a feeling that someone like Aston Villa could make an offer that is considered ‘out of the market’, which they would accept.

That’s because the Spanish side have ‘already rejected too many offers’ in the last three years, and that will have to change this summer as they look to balance the books.

That’s something those in charge at the club have made clear, with director of football Monchi even stating that “Sevilla can’t keep losing money”.

That means they’re open to selling their players if the right bids are made, although they will not do so on the cheap.

Carlos, in particular, has a deal until 2024, but the club have insisted both he and Lucas Ocampos can be considered as renewed until 2025, even though the club have not officially announced as much.

It means there is no need for them to sell on the cheap, even with their financial situation, and Aston Villa will need to get the chequebook out if they want a deal to happen.
