Real Betis boss Manuel Pellegrini ‘fears’ that Aston Villa will make a serious move for defender Alex Moreno in this transfer window.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say that while reports in England don’t see the Villans trying to get the player, there is still concern at Betis.

They explain that ‘what Manuel Pellegrini fears most’ is that Aston Villa will ‘really go’ for Moreno and leave him without his first-choice left-back.

The €15m figure that they could offer is ‘far more’ than what Nottingham Forest offered in the summer, but it would not give Betis any margin in which to reinvest in a top level signing to replace a key player.

That’s because the salary limitations which have been placed on the club by Ángel Haro are already limiting them and €15m is not a significant sum to help with that.

Even if Aston Villa were to reach a figure of €18-20m, which is what Betis are aiming for, the Spanish side would still ‘fall short’.

Despite this they have not failed to line up replacements and Antonio Cordón already has names such as Matías Viña, Manu Sánchez and Adrià Pedrosa on his list.

That is only an example of caution and ‘foresight’ from the Betis chief at this point, although his manager is very fearful that Unai Emery will come calling for one of his key players and potentially cause a major headache.
