Aston Villa’s Enzo Barrenechea has signed his contract with Valencia, finalising a loan move with an option to buy.
That’s according to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, who reports the deal taking the midfielder to the Mestalla is now done.
Barrenechea only joined Aston Villa this summer from Juventus as part of the deal that took Douglas Luiz the other way.
It seems he’s been quickly deemed surplus to requirements, though, and is now set to spend the season on loan at Valencia.
They’ve moved to sign him this week and, despite a deal stalling after injury issues made Aston Villa have second thoughts, a loan deal has now been done.
Reports yesterday indicated that the midfielder would be arriving at Valencia at some point today and Merlo now reports that Barrenechea has signed his contract with the Spanish side.
He will be joining them on loan for the season and Valencia will have an option to sign him permanently next summer. Whether they take up that option remains to be seen.
That will obviously be dependent on whether Barrenechea proves to be a success in Spain this season.
